That's an interesting question. What do I hope to get....
My oldest has graduated from THS and is in college (and running for one of two City Of Tipton seats on this board). My youngest is a senior. I am not, nor have I ever run, to have either of my children receive special privileges because their dad is on the Board.
Neither of my children are planning to pursue education as a profession. I'm not here to try to get my kids a job.
The salary a Board member earns is $2000 a year. After taxes, that works out for me to be around $1600 a year. During my first term, which did include the COVID years, that worked out to be around $3.50 an hour. I'm not going to get rich serving on this Board.
Before moving to Cicero, Tipton Community Schools gave me a solid educational foundation. Lincoln Elementary school was my school home in the 1970's and early 80's. I was so fortunate to be able to return to teach at Lincoln (and Washington) the last 7 years that building was open. Between teaching full time and substitute teaching, I gave 20 years to this corporation. Much of what I have, many great memories and friendships included, is thanks to TCSC. Much of what I had hoped to accomplish in term one, I was lucky enough to have likeminded Board members who believed in my goals. Most were accomplished.
TCSC is in a different position today than it was even in 2022. Our corporation is at a crossroads. Many public schools are in the same position as Tipton. I truly believe that I have more to offer. I chose to return to Tipton to teach. I chose to live in Tipton. I chose to make TCSC the educational home for my children. I am invested in this town and this school corporation. I feel like I made a difference between 2019-2022. I still feel like I have more to give to a school system that I truly love. I am a HUGE believer in public schools.
